Determined to Building A Better Richmond Public Schools
When we started The Scott Garnett Real Estate Team, we wanted to give back to the community just as much as it gives to us. Richmond is an extraordinary city on the rise in both popularity and opportunity, and as real estate agents, residents, and parents, we feel a personal responsibility to constantly help make RVA a better place to live.
2019 was an incredible year, with The Scott Garnett Team selling 35 amazing homes. As a result, we are thrilled to announce that a donation of $8,750 will be made to Richmond Public Schools and Building a Better Richmond Public Schools (BBRPS); an organization established to repair and restore our city’s schools. Also, for every home sold in 2020, The Scott Garnett Team will be donating $250 to BBRPS and Richmond Public Schools.
The Richmond Public School system has faced many problems over the years that the School Board and parent organizations have been trying to fix; one being the lack of funding, which affects the quality of the facilities and materials being used. All members of The Scott Garnett Team have kids that currently or previously attended a Richmond Public School, which is why we feel so passionate about positively transforming the system.
The BBRPS organization was created by myself, Alyse, 2 RPS teachers, and a Richmond private school teacher. The idea started on the Fox Elementary School playground after we continually heard parents and community members asking how they could help the school. We recognized the power of bringing groups of people together, as well as organizing fundraisers, and knew we could create a real solution.
Our group began fundraising through events such as “Take a Bite Out of the Budget” and “Raise a Pint for the Kids”, hosted at local restaurants and breweries throughout Richmond. We also organized local community partners to adopt schools within the district, allowing them to be involved with the renovations. Our partners consist of generous members of faith-based groups, businesses, VCU, and neighborhood associations who share the same passion that we do about our schools.
Thanks to our fundraising efforts, BBRPS has helped improve over 30 schools within the RPS district. Projects include landscaping, gymnasium and bathroom renovations, mural projects, wall painting, ceiling tile replacements, and even a holiday makeover for an elementary school. To date, we have completed close to $300,000 worth of upgrades to the Richmond Public School System.
The Scott Garnett Team is so thankful for this opportunity to improve our community. We can’t wait to see how our 2019 donation helps our schools become a better place to learn and grow for future generations to come.
